Yukon Aboriginal Women’s Council (YAWC)

YAWC aims to empower and celebrate Indigenous women and embrace their roles in communities, territories, and lands. This non-profit society supports growth and leadership for Indigenous women, girls, and gender-diverse people in the Yukon and Northern British Columbia. YAWC is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Check out a few of their programs and supports below:

  1. Counsellors In-Residence

    Through the Counsellor In-Residence program, YAWC offers free counselling sessions using modern and traditional healing techniques to Indigenous clients in the Yukon. These sessions are offered both in-person as well as virtually and are based in Whitehorse.

  2. Elders In-Residence

    The Elders in Residence program provides an opportunity for at-risk women to connect with Elders. This includes MMIWG+ supports, Sally & Sisters, and events to support clientele by sharing their knowledge and traditional skills.

  3. MMIWG Outreach Program

    The program aims to build trusting relationships with clients and help them navigate the inter-agency information and services system. Services and programs offered to family members range from Outreach Support Circles, Outreach AfterCare Circles, On-the-Land Healing Camps, training on self-advocacy and peer-led healing, ongoing communication
